| Perhaps
the greatest patron of art throughout the Middle ages in Christian Spain
was the Church. As the Church acquired financial and political power, it
endeavored to make religious worship as splendid as possible by commissioning
large-scale altars, such as the one on the right. The Hispanic Society has this Ascension Panel as well as items from Islamic Spain in its Medieval Art collection. |
